Will Itunes Recognise The Music Folder In The External Hard Drive?

If I bought one and created a in the like I have with my computer & added this folder into , iTunes the location as long as the external drive is plugged in? And when it’s not plugged into my computer will it break the location on the music files on the drive even though I don’t’ play them and will I have to re-add them/locate all the music files again? (Sorry if this is a bit jumbled, I didn’t know how to word it..)

Yes you can put your music on an external drive. When launching iTunes hold down the Alt key (on a Mac) or the Shift key (on Windows) and iTunes will ask you which library you want to use or if you want to make a new one. Tell it to use the external drive and it will keep using that until you change it. If the drive is not connected then it obviously will not be able to find the music.
