It seems to me that in the ’50s and ’60s rock n roll was just getting its foot in the door trying to establish some kind of name for itself and be taken seriously. In the late ’60s, rock began to become more adult themeatically due to the civil rights struggles and the Vietnam war. After the big festivals like Monterrey Pop Festival, Woodstock and the Rolling Stones concert in Hyde Park right after Brian Jones died, rock became a potent commercial and artistic force. In the ’70s, rock reached its height of popularity and professionalism not beginning to fade until disco, punk and new wave began making inroads toward the end of the decade. Corporate rock didn’t suck, if you consider how great some of the albums during the “long hair” era really were. Is there anything today that compares to Dark Side of the Moon, Rumours or Abbey Road?
